How do I find someone to fix my Shopify store in the UK?
By the WebFixed team. Last updated 21 September 2026.
The short answer
For a Shopify problem in the UK you have five realistic options: Shopify support, a partner found through the Shopify Partner Directory, a freelance Shopify developer, a Shopify agency, or a fixed price fix service. Shopify support is free and the right first call for account, billing and payment questions, but it does not repair custom theme code or third party apps. Whoever you choose should ask for access through a Shopify collaborator request, which gives them their own login with permissions you control, so you never share your password. Before agreeing to any work, get the price, the scope and the access method in writing.
Start with Shopify support, and know its limits
Shopify support is included in your plan and is reached through the Shopify Help Centre while you are logged in to your store. It is the right place for your account, billing, Shopify Payments, payouts, domains bought through Shopify, and questions about how a setting works.
Support advisers do not write or debug custom theme code, and they cannot fix a third party app. For an app fault they will send you to the app’s developer, and for theme code changes they will suggest hiring a Shopify partner.
Your options for hands-on help
- The app developer. If one app is clearly the cause, contact its support first. It is usually free, and the contact details are on the app’s page in the Shopify App Store.
- The Shopify Partner Directory. This is Shopify’s own listing of vetted partners at shopify.com/partners/directory. You can filter by service and location, and listings show reviews and typical starting prices.
- A freelance Shopify developer. Freelancers suit small, well defined jobs. Quality varies a great deal, so ask for examples of live Shopify stores they have worked on.
- A Shopify agency. Agencies suit larger work such as a redesign or ongoing development. Many have a minimum project size or a retainer, so they are rarely the quickest route for one broken feature.
- A fix service. These take individual problems and quote a fixed price for each one, with no retainer. WebFixed is one of these.
What collaborator access is and why it is safe
A collaborator account is the way Shopify intends outside developers to work on a store. The developer sends a request from their own Shopify Partner account, listing the areas they need, such as Themes. You approve it in your admin, and they log in with their own details, not yours.
- You never share your password or your two step login codes.
- The developer can only open the areas you granted.
- A collaborator does not use one of your plan’s staff accounts.
- You can remove the collaborator at any time under Settings, then Users.
- To stop unwanted requests, Shopify can require a collaborator request code, a four digit code found under Settings, then Users, then Security. You give this code to the developer you have chosen.
Be wary of anyone who asks for your owner login for a small job. A genuine Shopify developer will know how to send a collaborator request.
What to ask before you hire anyone
- Is the price fixed or hourly, and does it include VAT. If it is hourly, ask for an upper limit in writing.
- What exactly is included, so you both agree on what finished means.
- What happens if they cannot fix it, and whether you still pay for the time spent.
- How they will access the store. The answer should be a collaborator request.
- Whether they work on a duplicate of your theme and show you a preview before publishing.
- Who is doing the work and where the business is registered. For a UK limited company you can check the company number on Companies House for free.
How to describe the problem so quotes are accurate
Put these details in your first message to anyone you approach.
- Give the web address of a page where the problem happens.
- Say what you expected to happen and what happens instead.
- Say when it started and what changed around that time, such as a new app, an uninstalled app, a theme update or a code edit.
- Say whether it happens on mobile, desktop or both, and in which browser.
- Attach a screenshot or a short screen recording.
When to get help
If Shopify support has referred you to a developer, or the fault is costing you orders, it is reasonable to stop troubleshooting and bring someone in. The same applies if the fix involves theme code you are not comfortable editing. WebFixed fixes Shopify problems for a fixed price agreed up front, with one-off fixes from £39 including VAT and nothing charged until you accept the quote. It is free to send a request, access is by collaborator request, and you get your money back in full if we cannot fix it.
Related questions
- Does Shopify support fix theme code?
- No. Shopify support helps with your account, settings and Shopify’s own features, but does not write or debug custom theme code or third party apps. They will refer you to the app developer or to a Shopify partner.
- Do I need a developer based in the UK?
- Not technically, because Shopify work is done remotely. A UK provider can be easier for working hours, VAT invoices, UK payment and delivery setups such as Royal Mail rates, and checking the business on Companies House.
- How much does it cost to fix a Shopify store?
- It depends on the fault and how the provider charges. Freelancers and agencies usually charge by the hour or by the project, while fix services quote a fixed price per problem. Ask for the full price including VAT before any work starts.
